Banding Together

Banding Together

By: Jeffrey M. Bertman Graduate Gemologist Marrying couples often shop together for wedding bands that match. The standard ladies’ simple gold or platinum band ranges from two to four millimeters in width, while the men’s range from three-and-a-half to six millimeters. Stock sizes can range all the way up to ten millimeters in width, which are considered more masculine. With this in mind, it is important to try on sample bands of varying widths to see which is best suited to your finger and hand. The same style band can look quite different in differing widths. Also, Bear in mind that, if a ring does not feel comfortable on the finger to begin with, it is very likely that time will not improve the comfort level. As your fingers change with the seasons, you want to make sure that the band will fit as your fingers expand and contract. Different bands have a flat top with an inside curvature for comfort.
