In fact, some vivid colored diamonds have been known to sell for more than $1 million per carat. The latest of these to come to the public’s attention is the largest vivid orange diamond ever sold at auction. This beauty sold for $35 million ($2.4 million per carat), which, at the time, was a world record price for any colored diamond sold at auction. In November 2013, the huge 59.6-carat “Pink Star,” a flawless pink diamond, sold for $83.02 million, which is now the world’s record price for any gemstone sold at auction.
