Make a Statement

Make a Statement

By: Jeffrey M. Bertman Graduate GemologistIf there is one fine jewelry trend that seems destined to continue unabated, it is dramatic statement earrings. Of course, there is hardly anything new about statement earrings, which have been worn for centuries by queens and princesses intent on putting their royal mark on special occasions. While long earrings and heavy jewelry were the clear choices of royalty of yore, any woman today can wear a pair of statement earrings to spruce up her outfit. Depending on the style, bold earrings can impart a sense of class and femininity, while outsized, edgy styles can be used to introduce more than a bit of spark. Just as important, statement earrings can introduce color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit. When you wear statement earrings, they should be the only attention grabbing accessory you are wearing. In other words, do not pair statement earrings with long strands of beads, or lots of excessive ‘bling’. Depending on what sort of statement earrings you decide to wear, match your outfit accordingly. Gorgeous chandelier earrings are fun, but those are best when worn for a dressy occasion.
